I no longer even recognize the work I was shooting six months ago… it doesn’t even feel like it was me.  This feels… better.

I hope you agree.

My first shoot with Paige, I asked her if she’d be up for trying out a different kind of test shoot.  Different for me that is, maybe not for you.  Hard to say.

Instead of spending the night shooting we sat down somewhere.

We talked and I got to know Paige.  The small things.

Every once in awhile I stole a genuine expression during a genuine moment. A glimpse, a detail.  These are the things a brain like mine sees… when the rest of me is sitting still.

I like to think that part of the genuineness might be captured, and possibly even conveyed. To you, the viewer.

That is my artist statement, of sorts.

I hope you find it as fascinating of a process as I found Paige as a person.  Thanks much for your sla.  Short for slang.  You wouldn’t get it, unless you know her, which I guess is kind of the point?

A journey in documenting a person rather than a face.  That is my new inspiration.  I’ve finally found the words.  More images like this to come.

Spring storms just have a certain allure to them. Last night the rain was starting and stopping as the clouds rolled across the sky and I kept trying to focus on finishing my to do list.  Finally it was just too tempting, so I sent out a couple messages to models that lived close and Lindsi responded.

I’m so glad she did! All these images were shot as the sun made it’s final dash into the horizon, the clouds seemed to change by the minute.  All natural light.  The beautiful bokeh is from the Canon 50mm 1.2L lens, attached to the Canon 5D Mark II.

Do you ever feel like you catch a glimpse of your future in a single moment, but all the thoughts and images go through your brain so fast that you can’t hold onto any of them long enough to remember?

I like to think that in the moment I met Carly I saw the next four years of images flash through my brain, all 91 of these, but they left just a bit too quickly to grasp.

For reasons beyond my ability to explain I felt like we had to rediscover these elusive shots… if for no other reason than to practice capturing inspiration.

Every once in awhile we’d rediscover one of the highlights, like a fisherman reeling in the biggest catch of the day the thrill is beyond explanation.  It’s this adrenaline rush that compels me to keep shooting.

It’s a rush.  Just as big of a rush as sky-diving… at least for me.

I give you one of my all time favorite muses, if you follow my work at all then I’m sure you’ve seen her before.  Ms. Carly Stark.
